לַמְרוֹת שֶׁיָּדַעְתִּי כִּי אָמַרְתָּ וְגַם אָמַרְנוּ אַחֲרֶיךָ
וְכֻלָּנוּ יָשַׁבְנוּ לַמְרוֹת שֶׁמֵּרַרְנוּ לָמָּה וּמַר בְּפִינוּ
וְלַמְרוֹת שֶׁרָאִינוּ אֶת כָּל הַסִּימָנִים וְעַל כָּל
אחֶָד ואְחֶָד
תָּלִינוּ
לַמְרוֹת וְלַמְרוֹת
שֶׁלֹּא מִרְיַרְנוּ אֶת פִּיךָ כְּשֶׁבִּקַּשְׁתָּ שֶׁנַּפְסִיק
לְמַרְיֵר אֶת צַו הַשָּׁעָה בֵּין שְׂפָתֵינוּ הַפְּעוּרוֹת הִיא הִגִּיעָה
וְגַם לְךָ הָיָה מָרִיר בַּפֶּה עִם כָּל שֶׁנִּגַּבְנוּ בַּלָּאט בַּמַּיִם
הֵם נִצְבְּעוּ בַּנִּיקוֹטִין שֶׁהֶחְלַטְתָּ לְהַטְבִּיעַ סְבִיבֵנוּ לַמְרוֹת
שֶׁכְּאִלּוּ כְּבָר קִבַּלְתָּ אֶת הַדִּין בְּשַׁלְוָה
וְהָרוֹפְאִים כְּבָר נָתְנוּ אֶת מָה שֶׁנָּתְנוּ וְלַמְרוֹת
זֹאת כָּאן וְשָׁם אֲנִי עוֹד מַפְתִּיעַ אֶת עַצְמִי אוֹ מַפְתִּיעַ אֶת עַצְמִי מֻפְתָּע
כְּבָר אֵינֶנִּי יוֹדֵעַ כְּשֶׁאֲנִי מוֹצֵא שֶׁאֲנִי מְחַכֶּה שֶׁתַּגִּיד מַשֶּׁהוּ אוֹ
אוֹ שֶׁתֵּשֵׁב בַּכֻּרְסָא וּתְלַכְסֵן בִּי מַבָּט תּוֹךְ שֶׁאַתָּה
מְקַפֵּל חֲזָרָה אֶת דַּפֵּי הָעִתּוֹן הַסְּתוּרִים שֶׁהִשְׁאַרְתִּי אַחֲרַי הַבֹּקֶר
אַתָּה כְּבָר לֹא כָּאן לַמְרוֹת שֶׁגַּם אֶתְמוֹל לֹא מָחָר לֹא מַתִּי.
To Matty
Despite knowing you said so and we said after you
and we all sat despite lamenting why and a bitter taste
despite seeing all the signs
we hung
on each
and every one
and despite and in spite
of not rebelling when you asked us to stop
blackbiling the judgement between our parted lips it came
for you it was bitter too even as we gently wiped with water
that became stained with the nicotine you drowned us in despite
seeming to accept the verdict with grace
the doctors already gave what they gave and despite
all this here and there I surprise myself or surprise my surprised self
I no longer know when I find that I am waiting for you to say something or
or to sit in your armchair and glance at me while
you refold the disheveled newspaper pages that I left this morning
you are no longer here despite neither yesterday nor tomorrow no Matty.1
